The domaine is led by Benoit Stehly, nephew of Georges Lignier, who worked at the domaine for a decade alongside his uncle, before assuming control of the work in both the vineyard and the cellar in 2008.
Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Sorbes is nestled against the village itself, immediately downslope from Grand Crus Clos de Tart and Clos des Lambrays. This historical 0.45-hectare parcel was replanted by Benoit and his team in 2017; its unique topography includes a large cedar tree and a relatively high wall, both of which create plentiful shadows and shield the vineyard from the brunt of the long summer sun, providing a particular advantage in today’s unprecedentedly solar and warm growing seasons. Kinetic and linear, this bottling offers a dazzling array of spices atop dense but elegant fruit, with a minerality as potent as that of the Clos des Ormes above, but less punchy and more straightforwardly saline.
