The domaine is led by Benoit Stehly, nephew of Georges Lignier, who worked at the domaine for a decade alongside his uncle, before assuming control of the work in both the vineyard and the cellar in 2008.
A case in point of this domaine’s remarkable range of holdings, Lignier’s all-in Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru encompasses tiny parcels in Les Blanchards, Les Chaffots, Les Charrières, Les Faconnières, Les Gruenchers, and Les Millands. Whereas the domaine’s iconic Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes (above) comes from hard limestone mother-rock, the crus comprising this bottling are all richer-soiled and more erosion-affected, imbuing the wine with a thicker, sappier fruit profile.
