The Luberon can be on oasis of freshness and balance, surrounded as it is by appellations that occasionally succumb to high-octane fruit-bomb-style production. Made from vines averaging about 50 years old throughout Sylvain’s extensive holdings, “Panorama” Rouge comprises primarily Syrah (60%) and Grenache (25%), with a small amount of Carignan (10%), planted largely on southwest-facing slopes of sandy soil. After a length three-week cuvaison, the wine ages a full year—mostly in concrete, with the Syrah aged partly in used demi-muids. This cuvée delights the taster with energetic, lifted fruit and lip-smacking minerality while still possessing ample structure and depth.
