Echo comes from two parcels: a 0.3-hectare parcel in the vineyard Rougetière planted in 1997 in clay-limestone soils at 370 meters altitude, and a 1.2-hectare parcel in the sandy limestone of Poudrière planted in 1998 at 240 meters altitude. Rougetière is the estate’s highest-altitude and coolest site, and Poudrière is among the lowest and warmest; the Chardonnay that results from blending the two is simultaneously racy and luscious, offering a satisfying acid-mineral spine with plenty of supporting fruit. Sylvain ferments Echo spontaneously, aging part in cement and part in used 600-liter oak barrels, and bottling after nearly two years of elevage.
