Meaning “my father” in Friulian dialect, “Mepari” is sourced from Scarbolo’s oldest Pinot Grigio—a low-yielding 1.4-hectare parcel in the easternmost section of the limestone-heavy Pozzut vineyard in Lauzacco with vines a minimum of 27 years old. Fermentation of the 2023 “Mepari” began in stainless steel via pied de cuve and finished in 20-hectoliter Slavonian oak cask with spillover into three smaller barrels. In contrast to the subtle skin-maceration influence of the flagship “Pipinot,” “Mepari” (vinified as a white wine) presents a cleanly articulated array of verbena, acacia flowers, and laurel on a palate of tangy but rounded acidity, with a trace of appetizing bitterness that tightens up the lengthy finish. The 2023 underwent full malolactic fermentation and finished with a modest 12.37% natural alcohol.
