La Raia Gavi Pise

  • White

The most unique and extraordinary of La Raia’s lineup of Gavi, “Pise” is produced in miniscule quantities from the estate’s oldest vines: a parcel of 70-year-old Cortese planed in reddish soils at a higher-than-typical altitude of 300 meters above sea level. Fermented and aged one year in used 25-hectoliter Stockinger casks, followed by an additional year in steel to settle naturally, Pise displays tight-grained, tunneling minerality, with a lovely serenity of texture and gentle, subtle fruit. The estate conceived of Pise as a wine to illustrate the remarkable and largely unknown aging potential of seriously made Gavi, and this wine is indeed capable of improving in bottle for many years.

About La Raia

La Raia's wines are not boundary-pushing “auteur” Gavi; rather, they capture the fresh, likable, mineral-driven qualities that make Gavi so popular, yet with much greater depth and energy than is commonly encountered in the category.
