Riesling Smaragd Ried Kirnberg

About Josef Fischer
Though they show notable concentration, Fischer’s wines do not lead with power; rather, they are built around a tight helix of rapier-like acidity and intensely saline minerality, emphasizing kinetic thrust over sheer richness.
Situated immediately northwest of Fischer’s home village of Rossatz, the north-facing Kirnberg vineyard comprises various soil types: paragneiss at its base with dark mica and magnesium distributed throughout, terrace rubble higher up on its eastern flanks, and loess-rich topsoil. Fischer produces a smaragd-level Riesling from this site which combines the intense, focused acidity typical of these north-facing sites with a slightly honeyed fruit profile.
