About Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer
When the Jayer-Gilles estate, founded in the 1950s, was purchased in 2017, its new owner André Hoffmann—a well-known environmentalist whose father Luc co-founded the World Wildlife Fund—set out to improve farming practices and to refine cellar practices in the service of purity and balance.
A north-facing vineyard, while certainly a rarity in the Côte d’Or, proves hugely advantageous in today’s post-climate-change environment. Situated in the commune of Corgoloin at 330 meters altitude, Hoffmann-Jayer’s Clos de Magny encompasses 0.41 hectares of 50-year-old Pinot Noir with a northerly exposition. An exceptionally complex expression of a comparatively humble appellation, this cuvée is produced only in vintages in which Alexandre deems it worthy of its own spotlight; it is invariably deeper-fruited, more focused, and more elegant than the basic bottling above.
